10 Easy Ways You Can Improve Your Health Now
1. 1. Eat breakfast. So many of us are on the go, and we skip the most important meal. Breakfast is crucial for your body because it has been fasting all night. Choose a breakfast high in protein, like eggs, and low in junk carbs like processed breads and cereals which spike your insulin levels and lead to cravings.
2. 2. Add Whey Protein to your diet. Once or twice a day, mix a scoop of whey protein [it comes in all kinds of flavors] with some water and chug it down. Whey protein is very bio-available, it evens out your energy levels and helps you feel satisfied. Feeling satisfied keeps you away from the junky carbohydrates mentioned above that spike your insulin levels and cause cravings. In addition, it will help your body create more muscle in response to your workout routine.
3. 3. Take a quality fish oil supplement. Our diets are so heavy in omega 6 fatty acids [BAD-cause inflammation and ultimately disease]. The Omega 3 oils in fish oil supplements help to counterbalance the omega 6 to omega 3 ratios, bringing them back down to a healthier level. It’s also a good idea to avoid foods that have a high concentration of omega 6, such as fried foods and potato chips, and also pastries, donuts, etc.
4. 4. Take wheatgrass every day. This one’s a bit hard to swallow for some, but if you can figure out a way to take it consistently, you will have a much stronger immune system and a lot more energy. It is also rich in enzymes so it’s great for the gut. You will also get a nice, healthy glow on your skin when you take it consistently, which is nice in the dull winter months. I mix it in my protein shakes once daily, about a teaspoon.
5. 5. Take Quercetin with Bromelain for inflammation issues such as asthma, allergies, arthritis, and diabetes. Yes, diabetes is an inflammatory disease. Quercetin is a natural bioflavenoid that is found in the skins of apples, and it is a very powerful agent against inflammation.
6. 6. At dinner, eat meat and salad, and skip the bread. This will help your body switch to fat burning mode while you sleep, so that you can be healthier, and lighter…when you awake.
7. 7. Get your Vitamin D levels checked. Vitamin D deficiency strikes an astounding 75-90% of us here in the Midwest, and its symptoms include body aches, extreme fatigue, carbohydrate cravings, MS, osteoporosis, and even cancer. If you want to get a boost right now, use Carlson’s Lemon Flavored Cod Liver Oil…take a shot of it for about a week daily, then one teaspoon daily after that. You’ll be amazed at the difference in your energy level with this one small change.
8. 8. Exercise at LEAST 3 times a week. Do a mix of cardio and strengthening exercises to help improve both your cardiovascular health and your muscle tone.
9. 9. Drink a lot of water. Especially in the dry winter months, it’s easy to become dehydrated. Symptoms of dehydration include afternoon fatigue, headaches, and general malaise.
10 10. Think happy thoughts. We are what we think, literally, so try and stay positive and what you think about will come to you.
Have an AWESOME 2012!
